Every company has a name.
Ours has a legacy.
Starboard was named in honor of my grandfather, part of a builder family whose work helped shape the town they grew up in nearly a century ago. In those days, building wasn’t simply a profession — it was a craft. His family would begin each work day making bricks before constructing homes and buildings that would serve the town and its families for generations.
Their work reminds me that exceptional homes aren’t created by shortcuts or trends. They are built through care, patience, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way.
Growing up on the gulf coast, the name Starboard held another meaning for me. Starboard is the right side of a ship — a direction, a point of reference, and a reminder to stay the course. When I chose the name, it became more than a tribute to my grandfather. It became a philosophy: to build the right way.
That philosophy influences every decision we make. It means investing the time to get things right from the beginning. It means paying attention to the surrounding neighborhood and being sensitive to its character and the residents who call it home. It means selecting materials that are authentic to a home’s architecture rather than simply following what’s fashionable.
For Starboard, great building also honors both history and innovation. I have a deep appreciation for restoration and the craftsmanship found in older homes — I live in a Charles Dilbeck designed home that we thoughtfully restored — while I’m equally inspired by modern architecture, evolving building science, and new materials that improve the way homes perform and live.
At Starboard, we don’t simply build houses. We build homes the right way — thoughtfully, intentionally, and with the hope that they’ll become part of someone else’s family story for generations.
Who You’re Hiring
Building has always been part of who I am, even before I realized it would become my career. I began my professional career in commercial real estate in 1994, gaining a deep appreciation for development, investment, and the many pieces that come together to create successful projects. But over time, I realized I was most energized by the design and building process itself.
That rediscovery gave me the confidence to pursue what had always been a passion. In 2006, I founded Starboard — a company built around thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship, and the belief that every project deserves to be approached with curiosity, care, and respect.
Today, I enjoy projects of every kind, from restoring homes with history to creating timeless custom residences and thoughtfully designed spec homes. No two projects are ever the same, and that’s what I love most. If you’re looking for a builder who believes in building the right way, it would be an honor to earn your trust.
